Music speaks to me.

ree

It can shift my mood, lift my spirits, and even help me hear from God. Whether I’m driving, working, running or running late (which happens every once and awhile), or praying for a friend, there’s usually a song playing in the background. It’s amazing how often God uses music to get my attention.

In our house, musical tastes are as diverse as our personalities. My 8-year-old loves all the trendy pop songs. My 14-year-old has entered her country phase. My husband listens to a wide variety—from oldies and country to what I can only describe as “metal chaos.” As for me, I like my music upbeat. He calls it techno; I call it motivating.

This week, I thought I’d share some of my current favorite motivating songs—the ones that speak truth, lift me up, and get me moving (literally and spiritually).

This one is a new favorite. It's more mellow than my usual favorites but still motivating—reminding me that life isn’t always steady, but God is.

This song came on one chaotic morning when I was running late to a meeting. I didn’t feel the message at the time (I was all stress, no joy), but I walked into work with 90 seconds to spare… and saw a coworker’s mug that said “Choose Joy.” Fine. I get it. Message received, God. Check the attitude.

The lyrics are straight Scripture. A reminder I often need:

“Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?”– Matthew 6:26

When I’m stressed about work or something going wrong, this song helps me breathe again and remember that fear doesn’t get the final say.

Apparently, I’m on a Forrest Frank kick! This one played on the last day of school and just felt right. Sometimes, you need to mark a moment with music.

We don’t know what tomorrow holds, but we do know who goes before us. This song reminds me that I don’t have to figure it all out. God is already ahead of me.

I listened to this one recently while praying for a friend going through a tough health battle. Even when the fight feels overwhelming, we are not alone in it.

This is my ultimate pump-up song. It has the perfect energy for a run, a cleaning spree, or when I need to remind myself that I’m not stuck—I’m free in Christ.

A little rap, a little country, a lot of truth. This one hits deep if you’ve been through a hard season and seen God bring you out stronger.

Another Beckah Shae anthem that gets me moving and reminds me who I am. There's something powerful about singing about freedom when you're feeling stuck.

Yes, another Forrest Frank song. I didn’t realize how many of his tracks had made their way into my regular playlist! But this one’s a simple reminder that even in the small things, today can be a good day with the right perspective.

Music might not change your circumstances, but it can change your response to them.

God uses songs like these to help me refocus, recharge, and remember His presence. Maybe one of them will do the same for you.
