Your Presence is My Home: Finding Peace in Jesus

I had an amazing girls’ weekend — laughter, late-night talks, and deep conversations about everything from parenting to perimenopause. Somewhere in the mix, we ended up talking about what happens after we die… and whether we’re afraid of it.
I’m not afraid.
Do I want to die today? No. I want to watch my kids graduate, get married, have families of their own. I want to grow old with my husband, enjoy retirement, and soak in all the ordinary moments in between. But if today were the day, I am ready.
I’m not afraid because I know Jesus, and His perfect love is what gets rid of the fear (1 John 4:18).
Jesus died on the cross for my sins. He paid the price — completely — and because of that, I am guaranteed entrance to heaven. That truth gives me peace. I don’t have to fear what’s next because I know Who is waiting for me.
On the drive home from my fun weekend, Josiah Queen’s song Take Me Home came on my playlist, and it felt like the perfect reminder of that peace.
“Take me home to the place where I belong. Where You go, I will go — Your presence is my home.”
That line: Your presence is my home.
The thing is — that’s true right now. Heaven isn’t only a future promise. We get to be with Jesus here on earth every day we stay close to Him. His presence is where fear sent running. His presence is where we experience peace. His presence is where we belong.
But Jesus also promises us a future home:
“I go to prepare a place for you… that where I am, there you may be also.”— John 14:2–3
So we live in this holy tension — fully alive here with Him, and fully confident about where we’re going next. His presence now, His promise forever.
I am ready, Jesus.
I will stay here and do the work You have prepared for me.
But when the day comes, I’ll be ready to go home.
“For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain.”— Philippians 1:21
